Faux Suede Tutorial

Here's a step by step tutorial showing how to make faux suede from a piece of cardstock.

Step 1
You'll need a paper crimper and a piece of cardstock, mine is about 230gsm.

Step 2
Pass the piece of card through the crimper, varying the angle each time, this breaks down and softens the fibres.  I passed mine a dozen times.

Step 3
Rub the crimped card hard with a bone folder on each side to get rid of the crimped lines and to further break down and soften the fibres.

Step 4
Starting at one corner, gently start peeling the card apart, it should separate quite easily.

Step 5
Carry on peeling working in the same direction.  Don't start at one end, get half way and start at the other, it won't meet in the middle!

Step 6
You'll end up with two pieces like this, it looks and feels just like suede.

Step 7
Use it to make something!  I added faux stitching to mine and used it on a steampunk card.
