Fun With Felt

I've been going to felt making classes for a wee while now and I'm absolutely loving it, paper has stiff competition from soft, fluffy wool for my time and attention now!  A couple of weeks ago we made cobweb, or gossamer felt, using a different technique to the usual layering technique used to make standard felt.  It results in a wafer thin, lacy, holey felt which is really pretty.  I used my sheet of cobweb felt to cover an Easter egg.  It's a cardboard egg that splits in half, I painted it silver as the bare egg would be quite visible in places, then used a thin coat of PVA to stick the fabric in place.  Because it's so thin, it could be moulded round the two halves without folds or puckers.  Once stuck down, I trimmed off the excess, and glued the two halves together.  To cover the join, I added a strip of pink spider's web with a length of lilac ribbon layered over the top.  To cover the join of the ribbon at the top, and to add a pretty embellishment, I stuck on bows made from the same spider's web and ribbon, topped with a silver, glittered cross.
The daffodils were a bit of an experiment, they were one of those, "lying in bed at night" ideas that pop into my head when I'm trying to get to sleep, I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.  I simply felted up a piece of yellow felt from merino wool, die cut flower shapes with a Spellbinders die and die cut scalloped circles for the trumpets.  After a few secs in the microwave, whilst still wet, I gently shaped the flower petals, and pulled the trumpets into shape with a large ball tool designed for shaping paper flowers.  The two parts were then stitched together, with three beads sewn into the centre.  I then glued the flowers to the egg and added a few clear gems for a little bit of sparkle.
The photo of the back of the egg shows the mix of colours of the merino wool, the white flash is linen thread, and the splashes of bright pink and dark purple on the far left are silk tops.
